Jailer 2 has hit another big milestone. After becoming Kollywood’s biggest worldwide grosser, the Rajinikanth film is now the No.1 Tamil film in India as well.
Crossing 2.0 in India
Jailer 2 has crossed the India gross of Rajinikanth’s own 2.0, which stood at around ₹520 Cr. That figure had been the highest India gross for a Tamil film, and Jailer 2 has now gone past it.
With this, Jailer 2 holds the No.1 spot for a Tamil film both in India and worldwide.
Rajinikanth Beats Rajinikanth
What makes this record special is that it belonged to Rajinikanth himself. 2.0 held the top spot for years, and it took another Superstar film to finally go past it. The No.1 position stays with Rajinikanth, only the film has changed.
Already No.1 Worldwide
A week ago, Jailer 2 crossed 2.0’s worldwide gross to become Kollywood’s all-time industry hit. It was also the first Tamil film to cross the ₹700 Cr mark worldwide.
Now, with the India record also in its pocket, the film has completed a clean sweep of Kollywood’s biggest box office records.
Racing Towards ₹800 Cr
The film isn’t slowing down. By today, Jailer 2’s worldwide gross is closing in on the ₹800 Cr mark, a number no Tamil film has come close to before.
At 76, Rajinikanth has once again proved that when it comes to the box office, he’s still the biggest name in Tamil cinema.
Diwali Boost Ahead
With Diwali arriving next week, Jailer 2 has one more big window to add to its numbers. The film has also just crossed ₹200 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu, and it is now targeting Ponniyin Selvan 1’s all-time record in the state.
The ₹800 Cr milestone looks like just a matter of time.
